Questions and answers
What is an apprenticeship?
The minimum wage for an apprentice is currently £8 an hour, and after your first year you’ll move up to the full minimum wage for your age if you’re 19 or over. Earning while you learn is what makes apprenticeships such a great choice. You’ll learn, develop and show off the skills of your trade in a real working salon, as well as at our centre of excellence. This way of learning gives you support from your employer, their staff, and HAHA Educators and Mentors. From day one you’ll be part of the HAHA Team. Our promise is to deliver the latest standards, with state-of-the-art facilities and teaching from industry experts. You’ll also be encouraged to take part in internal and external competitions, which are a great way to showcase your work, including at our annual Charity Ball.
How much will it cost me?
You won’t pay for your apprenticeship training. It’s funded by the government and your employer. Your contract of employment must be for at least 30 hours a week. You’ll need to buy a full hairdressing kit, which HAHA Training supplies at a discounted price, including your textbook and the resources you need for the course.
Don't have a job?
Our Employer Liaison Educator works closely with salon owners to understand their staffing needs, training and job vacancies. To find you a salon, you’ll attend an interview, two days of training, and a second interview where we give you feedback. If you’re successful, we’ll match you with a salon, where you’ll do a work trial. This is your chance to show them what you can do. There are no formal entry requirements, but you’ll need a passion for the industry, great people skills, and to enjoy meeting new people. You’ll also need to be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, be self-motivated, and show plenty of enthusiasm.
How long will it take me?
A typical apprentice qualifies within 24 months. The course must last a minimum of 372 days.
What are the entry requirements?
We don’t have any formal entry requirements, but you’ll need to secure your place through an interview.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed throughout your apprenticeship by your HAHA Educator, both in the salon and at our centre, to track your progress and make sure you’re ready for your final assessment. At the end, you’ll take your End Point Assessment with an external examiner. You’ll carry out a range of services on models to industry standards and within commercial timings, and your result will be graded Pass or Distinction.
